A practical conversion handbook
Choose your output for the place you will use it. Keep your HEIC original: changing the extension does not convert a photo, and re-encoding cannot recover detail already lost in the source.
Use JPG when a form, email service or photo lab will not accept HEIC. Start at the converter’s default 80% quality, inspect faces, fine text and shadow detail at full size, then adjust. A quality value is an encoder setting, not a percentage of original detail retained.
JPGPNG stores the decoded image losslessly, but converting a compressed HEIC photo to PNG does not restore missing detail or make it sharper. For ordinary photos it can create a substantially larger file than JPG or WebP.
PNGUse WebP when your website or app accepts it. This converter exposes a quality setting; it is not a dedicated lossless-WebP mode. Compare your actual output with JPG at a similar visual quality rather than assuming WebP is always smaller.
WebPEach selected image produces its own one-page PDF. Downloading a batch as a ZIP does not merge those documents. The image is embedded as JPEG, so PDF is a document wrapper here, not a way to preserve the original HEIC encoding.
PDFQuality affects lossy encoding; maximum dimension limits the longest side while keeping the aspect ratio. A 4032 × 3024 image limited to 1600 pixels becomes 1600 × 1200. This is a sizing example, not a measured compression result.
For image output the converter tries to reduce the file toward the selected size. A complex image may still exceed it. Check the downloaded file’s actual size before submitting it to another service.
The image path re-encodes pixels and does not preserve source EXIF location and camera data. Do not rely on output for HDR, depth data, Live Photo motion or every image inside a multi-image HEIC. Keep the original for those uses.
Confirm that the original opens on the source device and has finished downloading from cloud storage. Renaming .jpg to .heic does not change its format. Try one known-good HEIC in an updated browser; if only one file fails, it may be damaged or use an unsupported variant.
A small compressed file can expand into a large pixel buffer. Start with one image, close other heavy tabs and split a batch into smaller groups. The 200-file and 50 MB per-file limits are acceptance limits, not a guarantee that a phone can decode every batch. Resizing output may not prevent memory pressure during the initial HEIC decode.
Open the browser’s downloads list and check blocked-download notices. If a batch ZIP fails, download successful files individually. Save results before refreshing or closing the tab: the converter does not keep a server-side copy.
In Safari, check the Downloads list and then the Files app; the folder depends on your Safari settings. A downloaded JPG is not automatically added to Photos. Open it and use the available share/save action if you want a Photos copy.
Use the browser’s downloads list to reveal the saved file. Extract a batch ZIP before opening its contents. Before deleting originals, confirm orientation, dimensions, colour and file type in the downloaded result.
Check your browser’s Downloads menu or the Files app. If conversion stops when you switch apps, return to the browser and try a smaller batch while keeping the tab active. Available memory and browser behaviour vary by device.
